Glossier Lash Slick VS Milk Kush Mascara
On 4/20, Milk Makeup cheekily launched its Kush Mascara, which contains cbd oil. Hardly over two weeks later, Glossier launched its first mascara ever, the Lash Slick. It's quite obvious that these two brands, with their main target audience being beauty lovers in their late teens and early twenties, were aiming to compete with each other. I'm not someone who is particularly loyal to any brand, so I usually mix and match a lot of stuff. Sometimes, if I really can't decide, I try both. And yes, this means that I end up with more make up than I can deal with.
So naturally, I picked up the Kush Mascara and immediately ordered the Lash Slick with my store credit (btw I'm a Glossier rep. Click here to get 20% off your first order.) and patiently waited for the day I decided I should review both of them at the same time.
I applied two coats of the lash slick on my right eye (so your left) and two coats of the milk mascara on my left eye (your right) and this is what they looked like:
left: lash slick; right: kush mascara
If you look closely, the Lash Slick side looks a bit more separated while the Kush Mascara side looks a bit clumpier, but also fluffier. Both formulas were very light weight, so they held a curl well instead of making my lashes droop. The Kush Mascara formula felt a lot goopier than the Lash Slick, so I was careful to let it dry a little bit after applying. If you don't like wet mascaras that need some drying time, I would not recommend the Kush Mascara to you.
Anyway, after applying these, I went to my school's 2018 commencement to see my friends graduate. It was a great personal risk wearing two not-explicitly-waterproof mascaras to an event which I might cry at on a very humid day. I ended up not full on crying but just tearing up a bit so I expected some smudging. However, I was surprised to see that the only smudging came from my eyeliner about 6 hours later. Then I proceeded to remove the mascaras in three different ways: micellar water, waterproof make up remover, and the Glossier Milk Jelly Cleanser.
Both mascaras withstood micellar water, but came off easily and effortlessly with the Milk Jelly Cleanser. I also think, if thoroughly and gently used, both of them will come off very well with whatever eye/lip make up remover of your choice.
I liked them both for different reasons. The Lash Slick offered something easy and natural looking. The brush didn't pick up a lot of product at a time, so there was no extra product at the end of the wand and dried quickly when applied. Adding a second layer didn't take away from its ability to cleanly separate the lashes.
The Kush Mascara was wet yet lightweight, something that I think is hard to come by. However, my one complaint would be that the brush was very large for my eyes and it picked up a lot of excess product that I either had to wipe onto the inside of the tube or it ended up on my eyelid. I like to really get into my lash line when applying mascara and the size of the brush made it difficult to do that without poking my eyeball. But otherwise, I loved the way how voluminous and fluffy my lashes looked. I would say the inconvenience of the brush is worth looking past for the results.
Both mascaras are cruelty free, vegan, and, at least from my experience, smudge free! I highly recommend that you go check them out.
Until next time,
Annie
